Characteristics of Our Teaching Method

1.     People learning language ordinarily follow one of two routes. One method relies not on explanations, but rather achieves language ability unconsciously through a long period of contact with the language in a suitable environment. This is the method of native language acquisition. The other method attains the goal of speaking ability through reliance on oral explanations of necessary fundamentals followed by frequent, intensive practice. This is the foreign language acquisition method. China Language Instituteˇ¦s instructional method combines elements from both these styles of language acquisition.

2.     Following brief introductory explanations of new patterns and vocabulary, we firmly require practice of spoken drills directly between student and teacher without the book; only in this way can students receive sufficient speaking and listening training needed to convert the passive knowledge gained from books into active language ability.

3.     Stated simple, we donˇ¦t dwell on grammatical theory in our instruction method, but rather proceed from introduction of basic sentence structures and practice each new pattern by inserting useful vo9cabulary suited to the different background of our students.

4.     Regardless of how lively and active a teaching method may be, if used over and over again without change, any method will eventually succeed in boring students into a counter-productive stupor, hence, our teaching staff is always reminded to try its best to develops studentˇ¦s enthusiasm and insight by varying as much as possible techniques and styles used in each step of instruction in order to increase and maintain our studentˇ¦s interests.

We require that all of our teachers, with respect to all peoplesˇ¦ basic needs for attention and encouragement teach each class and every student with a high degree of patience and a sincere attitude.
